Kingsbury open to giving up play-calling amid Cardinals' struggles

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is willing to consider delegating play-calling duties amid his team's continued struggles on offense.

"I am open to anything that helps us score more points and helps us win," Kingsbury said when asked about the possibility, according to team reporter Darren Urban. "We will see where it all goes, but yeah, whatever it takes to win, I'm all for it."

The head coach added: "Anything goes in this league. We will examine all avenues."

In October 2020, Kingsbury told "SVPod" he'd retire before giving up play-calling, adding: "My strong suit is calling it and interacting with the quarterback. I've got to play to my strengths."

Kingsbury and general manager Steve Keim received extensions through 2027 this March, while quarterback Kyler Murray signed an extension through 2028 in July.

The team will receive a boost to its offense in Week 7 when three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins returns from a six-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

The Cardinals' offense ranks 16th in yards per game (346.0), 17th in passing yards per game (226.7), and 22nd in points per game (19.0). Arizona owns a 2-4 record and sits in last place in the NFC West.
