New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Monday that the team is sticking with Zach Wilson at quarterback despite his shaky statistical production in recent games.

"We are 5-3 because he's done a great job taking care of the football and getting us in position to win football games," Saleh said.

"Avoiding all the sacks, being able to throw away the ball, keeping us on track, keeping us on schedule," the head coach added. "There's a lot of things that don't blow up the stat page, but from a coaching standpoint, there's a lot of things that he's done to keep us at least from imploding."

Wilson is 4-1 since returning from a knee injury he sustained in the preseason but completed just 54.9% of his passes for 1,048 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions.

He threw three interceptions in Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots and said he "had some boneheaded plays."

Saleh called the three interceptions "critical mistakes" and criticized the quarterback's decision-making. However, he praised Wilson's explosive plays.

The Jets will face the AFC-leading Buffalo Bills in Week 9.
