A senior pedestrian was taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon after being struck by an impaired driver in the Kirkendall neighbourhood.

Emergency crews responded to the area of Aberdeen Avenue and Dundurn Street South around 4 p.m. for reports of a collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body, said Const. Krista-Lee Ernst. He remains in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup, meanwhile, continued westbound on Aberdeen toward Highway 403 before crews arrived.

Police located the pickup about an hour after the crash on South Service Road in Stoney Creek, Ernst said. An adult male was later arrested for impaired driving.

Ernst said police continue to probe the hit and run.
