New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney is expected to miss several weeks after breaking his hand in an ATV accident during the team's bye week, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"While (on holiday), I joined a group for a guided sightseeing tour on ATVs. Unfortunately, I had an accident and injured my hand," McKinney said in a social media post. "The injury will keep me sidelined for a few weeks. I will do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible so I can contribute to what we're building here in N.Y."

The Giants placed McKinney on the reserve/non-football injury list Monday.

McKinney, a team captain, is in his third season with the Giants. The 2020 second-round pick enjoyed a breakout campaign during the 2021 season, recording 93 tackles, 10 passes defended, and five interceptions.

The 23-year-old tallied 38 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack in eight games this season.

Dane Belton and Jason Pinnock are expected to receive an increase in defensive snaps with McKinney sidelined.

The Giants (6-2) will host the Houston Texans on Sunday.
