Remembrance Day: A guide to services in the Hamilton area

It's time once again to stop and remember the sacrifices made for freedom.

Here is your guide to some Remembrance Day services in the Hamilton area:

In Hamilton the Trees of Remembrance displays are lit nightly. The lights are an acknowledgment of a life lived and the memories that endure. The tribute of light to honour those who have passed are in Hamilton Municipal Cemetery, 777 York Blvd. and Mountview Gardens Cemetery, 735 Hwy #8.

On Friday, Nov. 11

The City of Hamilton Remembrance Day service will take place at the Gore Park cenotaph.

  • A parade of Hamilton and area veterans, garrison units and cadet corps will leave the John Foote V.C. Armouries, 200 James St. N., at 10:15 a.m. proceeding south to Gore Park on King Street East. Outdoor service begins at 10:45 a.m. at Veterans' Place at Gore Park, King Street East.

Road Closure: King Street will be closed from Catharine to James streets between 10 to 11:45 a.m. for the service.

Mount Hope Remembrance Day service at The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, 9280 Airport Rd. Service starts at 10:30 a.m. Watch live on CHCH.

Ancaster's Remembrance Day service at Old Town Hall on Wilson Street. The outdoor service starts at 10:30 a.m.

The Dundas Legion Remembrance Day parade and ceremony. Parade starts at 10:30, moving along King Street East from Memorial Square/Sydenham Road to the Dundas Cenotaph at the Dundas Lions Memorial Community Centre. King and Market Street Service begins 10:45 a.m.

Burlington's Remembrance Day events are in-person in downtown Burlington at the Cenotaph in Veteran Square, 426 Brant St. at 11 a.m.

  • Remembrance Day Procession, 10:30 a.m. The procession will begin at Central School on Baldwin Street, travelling down Brant to Elgin streets, Locust Street, Ontario Street and ending at the Cenotaph in Veteran Square.

The streets noted above will be closed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Waterdown Remembrance Day Service starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Cenotaph at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 551, 79 Hamilton St. N.

The Mountain Legion RCL Branch 163 Remembrance Day service starts at 10:30 a.m., doors open at 10 a.m.

Stoney Creek Remembrance Day parade and service. Parade starts at 10:30 a.m., along King Street East from Green Road to Cenotaph Park, where the service will commence at 10:45 a.m.

Cayuga's ceremony hosted by Branch 159 is at the Cayuga Courthouse, 55 Munsee St. N., at 11 a.m. Light lunch following service.

The Hagersville Legion Branch 164 service at 10:30 a.m. with parade to Cenotaph.

Burl-Oak Naval Veterans Remembrance Day Service is at 9 a.m. Ceremony takes place at the Naval Ships Memorial Monument in Spencer Smith Park.

Ontario's Queen's Park Ceremony of Remembrance begins at 10:45 a.m. sharp to allow for the moment of silence at 11 a.m.

The National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa is back in full with a grand Veterans' Parade and a flypast. It starts at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be broadcast live on Facebook and television.

On Saturday, Nov. 12

Hamilton's Stories in the Stones: Remembrance Event on Nov. 12. Walking tour to the Last Monument and service with Pastor Chisholm. Shortened tour for Hamilton veterans. Meet Robin McKee at 11 a.m. in Hamilton Cemetery, 777 York Blvd., for a service and walking tour.

On Nov. 19, Stories in the Stones includes a veterans tour from 1812 to Korea. Tour starts at 11 a.m. in Hamilton Cemetery.

Members of the public may lay a wreath at any public service, there is no need to RSVP.
