Chiefs' Kelce: 'I don't get' why Giants traded Toney

It didn't take Kadarius Toney long to make an impact on the Kansas City Chiefs, gaining 90 scrimmage yards and one touchdown on just six touches against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10 in his second game with the club since joining the team.

Though Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce still can't believe the New York Giants dealt Toney, he's happy the second-year receiver landed at Arrowhead.

"I don't know how he got out of that building," Kelce said on the "New Heights" podcast," according to Brian Wacker of the New York Post. "I don't get it one bit."

He added, "I don't even want to know what happened over there. I am just extremely happy that (Chiefs general manager) Brett Veach found a way yet again to get an unbelievably talented player in this building."

The Giants drafted Toney in the first round in 2021, though that was under former general manager Dave Gettleman's regime. The Florida product showed flashes as a rookie but missed seven games with an injury, finishing the year with 39 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns.

Toney barely played when healthy earlier this season under New York's new coaching staff and eventually was sent to Kansas City in exchange for a compensatory third-round pick and a sixth-round selection.

"When you get a trade like that, you think there's something you have to weigh out," Kelce said. "Ever since he's been in the building, it's 'man, this dude's smart, man, this dude's crazy athletic, man, this guy has a lot of confidence.'"

Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs already boasted one of the NFL's top offenses before Toney's arrival, rostering the likes of Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster, who joined Kansas City this past offseason after the club traded receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.
