State-based anti-corruption commissions have power to intercept phone calls, which could undermine parliamentary privilege, Richard Pye says

Amendments are needed in the National Anti-Corruption Commission bill to protect parliamentary privilege in wiretaps involving MPs, the clerk of the Senate has said.

Parliamentarians are reviewing how the body could be granted legal powers to tap phones and access telco data during its investigations.
