Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera confirmed after Sunday's 23-10 win against the Houston Texans that Taylor Heinicke will remain the starting quarterback.

"We're going with Taylor," Rivera said, according to John Keim of ESPN. When asked why, Rivera said, "Winning," per Keim.

Heinicke took over as the starting quarterback in Week 7 after Carson Wentz was placed on injured reserve with a finger injury. Washington is 4-1 since Heinicke's promotion and now sits at 6-5.

Wentz went 2-4 as the Commanders' starter after they acquired him from the Indianapolis Colts in March. He threw for 10 touchdowns and six interceptions before going on IR.

Rivera said he spoke with Wentz and that the signal-caller will work to return as the backup, according to Sam Fortier of The Washington Post.

Heinicke has thrown for 840 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions. The Commanders will take on the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
