Gordon has struggled with ball security during his third season with the Broncos, recording five fumbles through 10 games.

His latest misstep came late in the second quarter Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. He fumbled the ball close to the goal line while trying to fight for yardage. Although Denver retained possession, the team later had its field-goal attempt blocked.

"I don't think that's the reason we lost the game because we recovered it, but it definitely didn't help," Gordon said, according to Denver 9News' Mike Klis.

Gordon added that he was "sick" after his latest fumble.

"I kind of know what comes after that at this point," he said postgame. "I shot my own self in the foot."

The Broncos lost their second straight game 22-16 in overtime Sunday to their AFC West rivals.

Gordon's release comes despite the fact fellow tailback Chase Edmonds is expected to be out for multiple weeks due to a high ankle sprain, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The Broncos will likely lean more on Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack moving forward. Denver lost starter Javonte Williams to a torn ACL in October.
