Chuck the dog has been reunited with his owner thanks to Hamilton police, after a dognapping outside a Cannon Street East convenience store over the weekend.

Chuck's owner went in to Sunrise Market at 217 Cannon St. E., at Wellington Street, for an ice cream, said Const. Krista-Lee Enrst. When they came out the small, black-furred pup was gone.

Police reviewed surveillance video from the store and recognized the suspect, who fled in a vehicle, she said.

Officers arrested a 32-year-old man at a residence on Queen Street North, where they recovered Chuck unharmed.

The 32-year-old faces charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
