Hamilton police investigating Crown Point West shooting Tuesday morning
Hamilton police are investigating an early-morning shooting at a home in east Hamilton.
Police were called to Cannon Street East at Balmoral Avenue North, in the Crown Point West neighbourhood, shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday for reports of shots fired at a single-family home, said Const. Indy Bharaj.
On scene, officers found shell casings, confirming shots had been fired. There were people home at the time, but no one was hurt. There have been no reported injuries.
Detectives do not yet know whether the shooting was targeted and no suspect information is available.
Police are warning the public there is a police presence in the area, including closures around the scene. Cannon and Balmoral includes a mix of single-family homes and a couple of walk-up apartments.
There have been at least 37 shootings reported to police in Hamilton this year, including 13 victims shot and three homicides.
Hamilton police have also reported an increase in the number of guns they are seizing, including many being seized by officers during traffic stops.
Police said they are often charging the same people repeatedly. Last year, 16 per cent of people charged by Hamilton police with gun crimes faced previous, similar charges.
