Police probe gunfire downtown — the fourth shooting incident in Hamilton in a week
Hamilton police are investigating the fourth lower city shooting in less than a week following downtown gunfire early Saturday.
In a release, police said officers responded to reports of multiple gun shots" in the area of Main Street East and Catharine Street South just after 4 a.m. Police did not identify any victims.
Investigators found bullet casings in the area, however - confirming at least the 40th reported shooting of the year.
This is the fourth shooting incident in a short time span and the Hamilton Police Service recognizes the impact that these events continue to have on our community," said police in a statement. Officers continue to work diligently to solve these incidents and prevent further acts of violence."
Officers responding to Saturday's shots saw three males fleeing the area. They were wearing dark clothing and may have been teens or in their early twenties. A white SUV was also seen speeding away from the scene.
Investigators are asking residents and businesses in this area to check security or dashcam footage between the hours of 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
The latest gunfire comes a day after shots were fired into a home in the Crown Point neighbourhood. Two other central Hamilton homes were also targeted in shootings earlier last week.
No one was injured in any of the incidents.
