Hamilton police are investigating two shootings that happened within a roughly one-hour span early Saturday morning.

Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in each of the overnight incidents, which are believed to be targeted, police said.

The first shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m. in the area of Upper James Street and Churchill Avenue on the Mountain. Police said one person was hurt and two suspects - whose descriptions are not yet available - were seen fleeing on foot.

About an hour later, around 5 a.m., police were called to another shooting in the area of Sherman Avenue North, between Barton Street East and Princess Street. One man was taken to hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries. No suspects have been identified.

There have now been at least seven shootings in Hamilton since Nov. 29.

Division 3 detectives are probing the Mountain shooting and asking anyone with surveillance cameras in the area near Upper James and Churchill to review footage between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30. Anyone with information about incident is asked to call 905-546-3851 or 905-546-8966.

Police are asking anyone with information about the central Hamilton shooting to contact Det. John Obrovac at 905-546-3817 or the Division 1 Staff Sgt. at 905-546-4725.
