Freezing rain: Winter weather warning issued for Hamilton
Freezing rain is expected to mess up the commute Thursday morning with a few millimetres of ice in Hamilton and most of southern Ontario.
Environment Canada updated a winter weather statement to a freezing rain warning for Hamilton on Wednesday just before 1 p.m.
A weather warning is issued by the national weather agency when hazardous conditions are forecast.
Freezing rain and ice build up of up to a few millimetres starting early Thursday morning is possible, the agency says.
Local travel advisories are possible as ice, slippery roads and walkways are likely. The freezing rain and ice pellets should change to snow or rain in the afternoon with total amounts of about 5 centimetres.
The freezing rain warning is expected to remain into early Thursday afternoon.
The temperature around Hamilton Wednesday will be -1 C, feeling like -12 C with the wind chill. It will hold at -3 C throughout the night and into Thursday.
On Thursday morning, the temperature is expected to jump to 1 C, but it will feel more like -11 C as the storm moves into the area. Periods of snow or light showers are expected Friday morning.
Heavier snowfalls of up to 10 centimetres are expected in Burlington, Halton Hills and Toronto by Friday morning.
Norfolk, Simcoe and Delhi have no snow or ice in the forecast but are warned of damaging wind gusts of up to 70 km/h, says the weather service.
