Adams not looking to leave Raiders, wants to be kept in loop on QB plans
Derek Carr's time with the Las Vegas Raiders appears to be coming to an end, but wide receiver Davante Adams said Wednesday that he doesn't plan to follow his close friend out the door.
"Yeah, absolutely, I wouldn't have been here or ended up here, originally, probably if Derek wasn't here," Adams said, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "But that doesn't necessarily mean that I won't be here in the event that he's not here. That's my boy. Obviously, I've got his back through anything. I think I've made that more than clear at this point. I support him and I support everything that he has moving forward as well.
"But my dream was to play for this team before he was a Raider, and at this point I want to try to make this thing work and continue on doing what I'm doing here, myself get better and see the team grow and get better as well."
The Raiders benched the veteran quarterback for the last two games of the season amid a disappointing first campaign under head coach Josh McDaniels, seemingly to avoid an injury that would put the club on the hook for $40 million in 2023.
Las Vegas is reportedly expected to explore a trade for Carr, who has led the club for the last nine years, in the offseason.
The Raiders turned to Jarrett Stidham for an overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He impressed in his first career start, throwing for 365 yards and three touchdowns against two interceptions.
Adams, meanwhile, continued his standout campaign despite the change under center, breaking the Raiders' single-season receiving mark (Tim Brown's 1,408) with a 153-yard, two-touchdown day.
While the star pass-catcher intends to stay in Las Vegas, he wants to be kept in the loop regarding the team's plans at quarterback.
"Me, Josh, Ziggs (general manager Dave Ziegler), we've all got a really good dynamic and it's something that I really appreciate, and I've mentioned it to them as well," Adams said. "They don't have to do anything - I'm not a part of the front office - but they know the reason why I came here.
"And a step like this is something that means a lot to me and my personal career and what I'm trying to chase as far as the ultimate pursuit, to get that ring. We've got a good understanding for one another and that helps this whole process."
