It's looking like it'll be a slippery start to the week for Hamiltonians.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning on Monday around noon, alerting residents to the possibility of icy rainfall early Tuesday morning.

A few millimetres of ice buildup is possible on surfaces, especially roadways and sidewalks. The weather service advises morning commuters use extra caution as rush-hour traffic will likely be affected. Give yourself extra time by leaving early and go slow when driving in slippery conditions.

Tuesday's freezing rain will transition to drizzle by the early afternoon, bringing with it a slight warmth as the day reaches a high of 6 C.

Monday afternoon will see a high of -2 C, which will feel more like -9 with the wind chill. There's a risk of freezing rain overnight before temperatures rise to 1 C Tuesday morning.
