Hamilton man charged with arson following vehicle fire in Oakville
A 20-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with arson following a vehicle fire in an Oakville neighbourhood on Monday, Jan. 16.
At around 10 p.m., the victim was at his residence on Oakhaven Drive when he noticed his vehicle was on fire in the driveway.
Police said a man had been seen moments earlier pouring a liquid on the vehicle, lighting it on fire and then fleeing the scene in a car of his own.
A neighbour and a Halton police officer used fire extinguishers to put the fire out.
The Oakville Fire Department also attended the scene.
No one was injured during this incident.
It is unclear how much damage the vehicle sustained before it was extinguished.
The suspect's vehicle was soon located across town in the Sheridan College parking lot where it had struck a light pole and been abandoned.
Police said a K9 unit was brought to the scene of the accident to track the driver and a man was ultimately located near the college residences.
This individual was reportedly identified as being associated with the crashed vehicle and was arrested.
A 20-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged with arson and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Police were unable to provide any information regarding a possible motive for this incident.
