'Yikes': Police say tire comes off truck in Oakville and young driver tests positive for cannabis
Halton Regional Police have laid charges against a tow truck company and one of its drivers after a frightening incident at an Oakville intersection.
Halton police say the incident occurred at an intersection in Oakville and tweeted about it Jan. 13.
Police say after officers responded to the detached wheel call, the driver tested positive for cannabis in their system.
"Not a good end to shift," Halton police's Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit tweeted. "Thankfully the wheel came off at low speed and did not impact another vehicle or person."
The young driver, under 21, has had their driver's licence suspended for three days due to having cannabis in their system, which isn't allowed for novice drivers.
The company and the driver face charges, including driving a commercial motor vehicle with a wheel detached.
The vehicle was also deemed "unfit" and "plates seized," police said.
The incident garnered strong reaction on social media.
"Yikes," @ALD21788568 tweeted.
Brian Lou added, "Thankfully nobody was hurt or killed."
