New James South fast-food joint keeps it golden

New downtown Hamilton burger joint, Goldies Fast Food, is adding to the culinary delights of James South and Augusta.

The takeout restaurant opened softly in December with the promise of expanded hours, now noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, in the new year.

Formerly Saigon Soul Food, the 152 James St. S. spot features burgers, like The Gold Standard burger; fried chicken sandwiches, like Golden Chicken; and five kinds of Golden Fries - folks might be sensing a theme here.

There are plant-based, gluten-free and kids' options, too. Also, the sundaes and fountain drinks are sometimes blue.

The restaurant is a throwback to golden age fast-food joints of the 60s. So go grab a hamburger with the works and, as they say, stay golden."
