Man charged in ‘suspicious’ Ancaster death
Hamilton police say a man has been arrested after a critically injured woman was found in the middle of an intersection in Ancaster on Wednesday morning.
The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
The suspicious" death is believed to have happened in the area of Kitty Murray Lane and Garner Road East in Ancaster early in the morning on Jan. 18, police said.
The unidentified woman, who paramedics believe was in her 20s, was found by a citizen in the intersection of Garner and Kitty Murray around 6:30 a.m., police say.
In a release Thursday, police said a man has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life, and remains in custody.
Police say the victim and the man charged knew each other, but wouldn't share further details about their relationship.
It's a male and female, and we're not providing any details about the individuals," said Const. Krista-Lee Ernst, police spokesperson. In these situations, we don't speak further about them."
Police say identities will not be released. Investigators are still working to notify the victim's family, the release said.
Investigators are looking to speak with the driver of a dark Ford pickup truck travelling on Kitty Murray Lane at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday who may have witnessed an altercation between a male and a female," police say.
Police say the investigation is with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Ernst said police don't anticipate changes to the charges.
All road closures for investigation have been reopened.
Garner was closed between Southcote Road and Redeemer University's private road, about 300 metres away from the intersection, most of the day on Wednesday. Kitty Murray was also closed between Emick Drive and Smith Road.
On Thursday afternoon, police could be seen standing by a blue tent in the driveway of a house on Emick Drive.
