Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, the team announced Sunday, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

Herbert is expected to be cleared for participation in Los Angeles' offseason program.

The 24-year-old was selected as a second alternate for the Pro Bowl Games but can't participate in the Feb. 5 event due to the procedure.

Herbert shared a photo on Instagram Sunday, adding that the "surgery went great."

It's unclear when Herbert sustained the shoulder ailment. The Chargers' season ended with a wild-card loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after the AFC West club blew a 27-point second-quarter lead.

Herbert played through fractured rib cartilage for multiple weeks after sustaining the injury in Week 2. The third-year passer completed 68.2% of his passes this season, up from a 65.9% completion rate in 2021. He also passed for 4,739 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2022, down from 5,014 yards and 38 scores the year before.
