It gives new meaning to smash and grab, but York Regional Police have released wild security footage of the driver of a vehicle smashing through the entrance of Vaughan Mills mall in an overnight robbery attempt.

It happened around 1:10 a.m., when police say the vehicle seen in the video driving across the empty parking lot, slowing down slightly, before proceeding to drive right through the glass entrance of the mall.

The video then cuts to security footage from inside, showing the vehicle driving through the shopping mall passing by stores like Uniqlo and Calvin Klein, navigating around the children's play rides still lit up with colourful lights.

York police told the Star that once inside, the suspects entered an electronics store and took a quantity of electronics." Police did not provide an exact amount.

The suspects are then seen in the video exiting through another mall entrance the same way the entered - by smashing right through the glass doors - before fleeing the scene.

During a press conference late Wednesday morning about the incident, police said the license plate had been reported stolen.

Police are looking for two suspects and a car with a Quebec licence plate and say the suspects were wearing hoods. The vehicle used in the robbery was a black 2011 Audi A4 with Quebec licence plate X10 SNP, according to police.

They added that the vehicle also sported a distinctive emblem on it that says Ladies On Wheels" in light lettering on the front windshield on the car.

Damage to the entrance was significant and police say there were no injuries reported.

Anyone who saw what happened or anyone with video footage of the incident of suspect vehicle is urged to contact York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423.
