Impaired charges filed in fatal 2022 crash on QEW that killed Carly Charlebois of Hamilton
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in connection with a June 16, 2022 crash that claimed two lives and seriously injured a third person.
Hamilton resident Carly Charlebois, 20, and Rama Pirakala, 42 of Oakville, died in a multi-vehicle collision on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Cawthra Road in Mississauga at about 10:30 p.m.
Charlebois, who attended St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School and Fanshawe College, had recently started a part-time job at Cabana Poolbar in Toronto.
Following her passing, friends and family said Charlebois had a larger-than-life personality, a knack for fashion, and a way of making everyone around her feel special.
After hearing about the charges, Charlebois' mother, Cheryl Lewis said: Drinking and driving is not an accident. It's a choice that has destroyed so many lives."
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt confirmed in an email Jan. 30 that Adel Al-Busaidy, 32, of Sables-Spanish Rivers Township has been charged with two counts of impaired operation causing death and one count of impaired operation causing bodily harm. The accused was held for bail.
