Power was out in a large section of east Hamilton Friday morning.

Alectra Utilities reported a power outage around 6:45 a.m. Friday in the area between Centre on Barton and west of Eastgate Square.

The electricity went out in the area from Kenilworth Avenue North and Nash Road and from Barton Street East to Burlington Street, the utility said on their website.

At least 560 residents and businesses were affected by the outage.

In an updated post around 11 a.m., the power company said crews were dispatched to investigate and found an underground distribution problem.

The lights were still out for 252 customers in the area. These residents can expect power to be back on around 7 p.m., adds the utility.

Remember to treat affected intersections as four-way stops during a power failure.
