Report: Carr won't accept trade from Raiders, expected to be released
Quarterback Derek Carr informed the Las Vegas Raiders that he won't accept a trade to the New Orleans Saints or any other team, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Las Vegas wanted a third-round draft pick in exchange for Carr but is now expected to release him, making him a free agent, ESPN Jeremy Fowler reports.
The Saints and Raiders had a framework agreement in place for Carr, but his $40.4-million contract that would be fully guaranteed as of Feb. 14 was an issue. Carr's no-trade clause allowed him to veto any deal and will likely lead to his release.
The 31-year-old has been the Raiders' starting passer since 2014. Las Vegas is coming off a disappointing 6-11 campaign despite reuniting Carr with college teammate Davante Adams.
Carr previously said he wasn't willing to extend his contract deadline to help facilitate a trade.
The four-time Pro Bowler was abruptly benched for the final two games of the 2022 campaign and then excused from the team. He passed for 3,522 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 15 games last season.
Carr inked a three-year, $121.5-million extension last April. The Raiders would save $29.25 million in cap space but take on $5.63 million in dead money by cutting the veteran signal-caller, per OverTheCap.
