The Jacksonville Jaguars have had positive discussions about a long-term deal with tight end Evan Engram as both sides hope to reach an agreement before the March 7 tag deadline, sources told Jordan Schultz, theScore's NFL insider.

Evan Engram and the #Jaguars have had positive discussions on a long-term contract and both sides are motivated to try to reach a deal before the March 7 tag deadline, sources tell @theScore. Engram is coming off his best season, compiling 73/766/4. Jacksonville values him a ton.

Engram is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason. He signed a one-year, $9-million deal with the Jaguars last year after spending the first five seasons of his career with the New York Giants. Jacksonville could also elect to franchise tag the tight end if a long-term deal isn't reached by March 7.

General manager Trent Baalke said last month that the organization "would love" to have Engram back, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. Engram said there is interest on both sides to return during an appearance on "SiriusXM NFL Radio" this week.

The 28-year-old is coming off a breakout season that saw him set a career-high in receptions (73) and receiving yards (766). He was a consistent target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence as his 766 yards ranked third among all pass-catchers on the team.
