Hamilton police charge man in New Year’s Day shooting at downtown restaurant
Hamilton police have charged a man in connection to an early-morning shooting on New Year's Day.
As previously reported, police responded to reports of a shooting inside of a crowded Jackson Street East restaurant shortly after 5 a.m. on Jan. 1.
At the scene, officers found a woman with non-life-threatening injuries inside the Sankofa Lounge and Restaurant.
The woman was transported to hospital and has since been released, according to a press release.
Police said that, as part of the investigation into the shooting, officers conducted a search warrant at a home in Binbrook.
A 40-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and is facing several charges in connection to the shooting, including aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Police previously said the shooting was believed to be targeted.
