Miami Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones' eight years in the NFL haven't been kind to his body.

"Today I can't run or jump because of my injuries sustained playing this game," the 30-year-old tweeted Saturday.

"It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL, but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee," he added. Despite the wording of his tweets, Jones is not retiring, a source told ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee. In my opinion, no amount of professional success or financial gain is worth avoidable chronic pain and disabilities. Godspeed to the draft class of 2023.

Jones spent the entire 2022 campaign on the physically unable to perform list after surgery last March to repair a torn Achilles. He was expected to return from the injury during the season but was never activated.

The UConn product played for the Dallas Cowboys from 2015-19 after being selected 27th overall in the 2015 draft. He signed a five-year, $82.5-million deal to join the Dolphins in 2020.

Jones entered the NFL as one of the most athletic players the NFL Combine had ever seen. The defensive back's explosiveness was universally impressive - his 12-foot, 3-inch broad jump set an unofficial world record that still stands today.
