OPP searching for vehicle involved in hit-and-run crash that left victim ‘fighting for their life’
Ontario Provincial Police in Haldimand have released photos of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured earlier this month.
Just after 8 p.m. on Feb. 17, first responders were called to Broad Street East, east of Chestnut Street in Dunnville following reports of a collision.
A driver hit a pedestrian and then left the scene of the crash, police said. The victim was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital in life-threatening condition.
In a video update posted to Twitter on Feb. 24, Const. Ed Sanchuk said the victim remains in hospital and is fighting for their life."
I certainly hope that they pull through," said Sanchuk. And we are looking to bring a little bit of closure to (their) family."
Sanchuk said the driver fled eastbound on Broad Street East and police continue to search for a small, white sport utility vehicle with possible passenger-side damage."
That driver is being asked to do the right thing, the smart thing, the responsible thing" and contact police.
Sanchuk also noted that police believe there was a black vehicle in the area shortly before the pedestrian was struck and the driver of that car is being encouraged to contact police.
They may hold a key piece of the puzzle to this investigation," said Sanchuk.
Investigators are asking homeowners and businesses in the area to check their surveillance camera footage for any images or video of the involved vehicle.
Police are also asking repair facilities and auto body shops to contact investigators with any information if a vehicle with passenger side damage comes into their business.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
