The tight end franchise tag is $11.345 million this year.
The 6-foot-3 target set career highs in catches (73) and yards (766) during his first season with the Jaguars. He also added four touchdown receptions.
Engram signed a one-year, $9-million deal with Jacksonville ahead of the 2022 campaign after five seasons with the New York Giants.
Engram finished with the third-most receiving yards on the Jaguars and the fourth-most receiving yards by a tight end for the 2022 season. Only Travis Kelce, T.J. Hockenson, and Mark Andrews finished ahead of him at the position.
The 28-year-old has been discussing a long-term extension with the team, sources told Schultz last week, and there's mutual interest in a new deal. Using the franchise tag allows the sides to continue negotiating while keeping Engram off the open market.
