'Smoke and flames': Big house fire in Burlington sends more than 20 firefighters to scene
Burlington firefighters are trying to determine what caused a house fire in a Burlington neighbourhood.
The blaze broke out around 4 p.m. Wednesday (March 8) on Longmoor Drive as firefighters responded to "smoke and flames showing" on the home, according to a joint press release between the City of Burlington and Burlington fire department.
It appears debris on the side of the house ignited and extended up the side of the house into the roof area, fire officials said.
Two people were in the home but escaped uninjured.
The fire caused about $350,000 damage and promoted eight fire trucks to come to the scene with a total of 21 fire personnel, according to the City,
The cause is under investigation, but the fire department had a warning for residents.
"Install smoke alarms on every level and outside sleeping areas. It's the law. Develop a home fire escape plan and practice it with the entire family. Make sure everyone knows two ways out of each room, if possible," the release said in its fire safety message.
