Child found dead in camper fire at Mississaugas of the Credit
A child was found dead while six other people were able to escape with minor injuries after a camping trailer caught fire early Monday morning in Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
At around 1:53 a.m. March 13, Ontario Provincial Police, Haldimand firefighters, as well as the paramedics and the Six Nations Fire Department were called to a fire on Mississauga Road.
Attending firefighters arrived on scene and were met with a fully engulfed camping trailer. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but a child was located inside and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
Six people, including two adult and four children, were able to escape and suffered minor injuries.
The Haldimand County OPP Crime Unit, the Office of the Fire Marshall along with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service is continuing to investigate this incident.
Victim Services of Haldimand-Norfolk-New Credit were engaged and are assisting family members and the victims involved in this incident.
In a video updated posted to Twitter, OPP media officer Ed Sanchuk offered his condolences to everyone involved in this tragic incident.
