A train carrying Ontario wheat derailed in Port Colborne Saturday, spilling its load into a parking lot.

Niagara Regional Police Sgt. Aaron Gross told reporters on scene the northbound train was crossing Main Street West when three of the cars tipped over.

He said the cargo was wheat.

We've been in contact with the Ministry of Environment, (and) Transportation, and there's no environmental concerns," he said, adding there was no fuel spill.

No one was injured.

In a Twitter post, the City of Port Colborne said Main Street would be closed Saturday night between King Street and Canal Bank/Weir Road while crews cleaned up the derailment. The closure was to start at 9 p.m. and was expected to last about four hours.

Gross said police did not have a cause for the crash and it's under investigation.

Gio Rail officials did not comment on the scene or when contacted at the Welland company's office.
