Report: Billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos joins list of Commanders bidders
Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos has joined the list of potential bidders interested in purchasing the Washington Commanders, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Brian Windhorst.
Apostolopoulos is the founder of Six Ventures Inc., a private equity venture fund. The Toronto-born businessman reportedly toured Washington's stadium and training facility.
Apostolopoulos was also involved in discussions to buy the Charlotte Hornets from Michael Jordan but is instead putting his focus toward the opportunity to purchase the Washington franchise, Schefter and Windhorst report.
There are currently three known bidders for the franchise, including a group led by Philadelphia Sixers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris. There's speculation that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is also interested in joining the bidding process, but he hasn't formally made an offer.
Commanders owners Dan and Tanya Snyder announced that they had begun the process of selling the team last November. It's unlikely that Washington will present a buyer to the league at next week's annual owners meeting, barring an accelerated process, according to MMQB's Albert Breer.
