Hamilton fire on scene of multiple alarm blaze on Hendershot Road

Hamilton fire is at a multiple alarm fire at a commercial property in Hannon Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to 183 Hendershot Rd., between Regional Road 20 and Golf Club Road, for smoke around 6:30 a.m. The incident has since been upgraded to multiple alarm, drawing resources from across the city to fight the fire.

Hamilton firefighters are on scene of an active fire incident with a fire reported inside of a large structure located at 183 Hendershot Rd.," said Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Steve Welton in an email. Firefighters are on scene actively firefighting."

The fire is contained to the property and more information will be released when available, he said.

Hamilton fire is also advising residents in the area to keep windows closed and shut down air handling units to avoid drawing in any smoke.

Hamilton police are assisting with traffic, said Const. Indy Bharaj. Hendershot Road is closed between Regional Road 20 and Golf Club Road.

Maljohn Company, which is located at 183 Henderson, is not on fire, the company said in an email to The Spectator. The plastics manufacturing business has been evacuated, but expects to be back open for business as usual on Friday.

The fire appears to be at a separate business behind the plastics manufacturer.
