10-year-old boy dead after multi-vehicle crash on QEW near Lincoln
The Ontario Provincial Police said a 10-year-old from Beamsville, a community in Lincoln, Ont., was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way Highway.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a Tweet that the collision took place at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday on the Niagara-bound lanes of the QEW, near Tufford Road in Lincoln.
Police say a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old woman from Mississauga hit the back of a white SUV being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Beamsville, with two 10-year-old brothers in the back seat. As a result, the SUV was pushed into another SUV with a 37-year-old female driver from Milton.
Emergency crews took a 10-year-old boy to hospital with serious injuries, where he was pronounced deceased at around 9 p.m., said OPP. The 44-year-old woman and the boy from Beamsville, along with the 37-year-old woman from Milton, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The woman from Mississauga did not sustain any injuries.
The OPP is investigating and no charges have been laid at this time.
The roads are dry, the sun was shining. Visibility was clear. There was some congestion ahead due to likely afternoon rush hour traffic," Schmidt said in a video posted to Twitter, this is certainly a very tragic investigation and our hearts go out to those family members and loved ones of this 10-year-old boy."
