What’s open and closed on Easter weekend in the Hamilton area
Is it open or is it closed this Easter weekend?
Schools are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but not everything takes a four-day break. Here's a look at what is open - and what's not - from April 7 to 10.
City hall
Hamilton and Burlington administrative services are closed Friday and Monday.
Hamilton garbage pickup on Friday is moved to Saturday. There are no changes to pickup on Monday.
Community recycling centres are closed on Friday and Sunday and open Saturday and Monday.
Hamilton's licensing and bylaw phone queue line (905-546-2782) is closed on Friday and Monday.
The Hamilton housing services office at 350 King St. E. is closed on Friday and Monday.
Hamilton's animal services office counter and shelter will be closed on Friday and Monday. The office counter and shelter will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For animal-related emergencies, call 905-574-3433.
Ontario Works
The Ontario Works program, including the Special Supports Program, is closed on Friday and Monday.
Libraries
All Hamilton branches are closed on Friday, Sunday and Monday and open on Saturday.
Burlington libraries are closed Friday and Sunday and open on Saturday and Monday.
Transportation
HSR will run on a holiday schedule Friday, a regular Sunday schedule on Sunday, and a regular weekday schedule on Monday.
DARTS reservations and on-street service operate on Sunday/holiday schedule on Friday and Monday. Subscription services are cancelled those days.
Burlington Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Friday.
GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Friday.
Grocery and retail stores
Most stores are closed Friday and Sunday, according to the Retail Council of Canada.
Hamilton Farmers' Market
Hamilton Farmers' Market is open Thursday, Saturday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (8 a.m. on Saturday).
RBG
The Royal Botanical Gardens and its trails are open regular hours.
Museums and attractions
The Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park is closed on Friday and Monday.
All Hamilton civic museums are closed Friday and Monday and open regular hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Joseph Brant Museum and Ireland House in Burlington are closed Friday and Monday. Joseph Brant is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Ireland House from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Free parking in downtown Burlington on weekends and holidays, with the exception of waterfront parking lots, which do not provide free parking on holidays.
Recreation
Hamilton's indoor pools, recreation centres, seniors centres and arenas are closed on Friday and Monday.
Burlington indoor drop-in activities such as swimming, skating and gym times are offered on a reduced schedule.
Canada Post
Post offices are closed and there is no delivery Friday or Monday.
LCBO and Beer Store
The LCBO is closed Friday and Sunday. Select stores will be operating under reduced hours Monday.
