Joe Biden has said the democratic institutions established by the Good Friday agreement are critical to the future of Northern Ireland while calling for the assembly to be restored.
Biden delivered the keynote address at Ulster University on Wednesday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement. His visit came against the backdrop of a political stalemate in which the devolved Northern Ireland assembly has not been functioning for more than a year due to a row over post-Brexit trade arrangements
