The Carolina Hurricanes became the first Eastern Conference team to reach the second round as they defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in Game 6 on Friday.
After Carolina's Sebastian Aho tied the contest in the third period, Paul Stastny played the role of overtime hero with a sharp-angle shot.

The goal was Stastny's third of the playoffs. He scored nine in the regular season.
Frederik Andersen made 33 saves in the victory, his first postseason game with the Hurricanes. The 33-year-old had lost eight consecutive starts when his team could claim a series win.
Cal Clutterbuck was the lone Islander to solve Andersen when he found the back of the net in the first period.
Carolina advances to the second round for the third consecutive season with the victory. The Hurricanes will face either the New Jersey Devils or the New York Rangers in the next round.
