3-year-old drowns in Hagersville pool
The community is in mourning following the drowning death of a child.
On April 29, just before 5:40 p.m., the Haldimand detachment of the OPP, Haldimand County Fire Department and Haldimand County Paramedic Services responded to an emergency call at a Hagersville address.
It was determined that a three-year-old child was located unresponsive in the family pool," Const. Ed Sanchuk wrote in a news release.
The child was transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The OPP's crime unit is assisting with the investigation, but The death is not being treated as suspicious," Sanchuk said, adding that no further details are being released.
According to the Government of Canada's website, drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children ages one to four years old.
Children can drown very quickly and quietly, even in just a few centimetres of water. Lock access to all water (even shallow portable pools) when an adult is not present," the website states.
