Police in Brownsville, Texas named George Alvarez, 34, a resident of the city on the US-Mexico border, as a suspect in the incident on Sunday morning in which a car ploughed into a group of people waiting at a bus stop outside a migrant shelter. They put up his mugshot and an image of what they described as an extensive rap sheet - details of a long criminal history including assault and burglary. Alvarez was arraigned in court on Monday on eight counts of manslaughter and 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being detained on bail of $3.6m
