Lenova ideapad 3 keyboard and touchpad not recognized.

I have a weird problem with my new lenova ideapad 3. I've tried it with 3 recent linux live distros and with none of them is the keyboard or touchpad seen.
There is no problem during boot and with grub the keyboard works fine. The virtual keyboard also works. A new usb hub, external usb keyboard and mouse also work fine. Installed the latest manjaro linux and updated the system. The internal keyboard and touchpad are still not detected. (but fine during boot -remember? - boot uses simpler module).
I've install linux many times over the years and solved many different problems but I've never had a keyboard not detected!
Is lenova doing something weird to a laptop it sells without an OS?
