Chiefs superfan 'ChiefsAholic' arrested after 4 months on the run
The Kansas City Chiefs superfan who went on the run following his arrest for armed robbery last year has been apprehended.
Xaviar Michael Babudar, better known as "ChiefsAholic," was arrested in Lincoln, California, on July 7, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri. He was charged with one count of bank theft and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines.
Babudar, 28, was initially arrested in December in connection with an armed robbery at the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union in Bixby, Oklahoma. He was scheduled to be arraigned in March but failed to show up for a court hearing and allegedly removed his ankle monitor, leading to him being placed on the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers' Most Wanted Fugitives list.
Following his December arrest, FBI investigators began reviewing bank and casino transaction records to determine the extent of Babudar's potential criminal activities.
The FBI determined that Babudar had purchased and redeemed more than $1 million in chips from casinos in Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois between April and December 2022, according to the court affidavit. Investigators reviewed unsolved bank robberies in the Midwest during that time period and placed Babudar's cell phone in the same locations of robberies in Nebraska, Iowa, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, as well as two attempted robberies in Minnesota.
In the Iowa robbery, Babudar allegedly stole $70,000 from Great Western Bank in Clive on March 2, 2022, and transported the stolen money across state lines to Missouri, according to the affidavit. The affidavit states that the same amount of money was deposited into Babudar's bank account over the next six weeks.
Babudar made a court appearance Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in Sacramento. His case will be presented to a federal grand jury to determine whether he'll be indicted on any additional charges.
