Question about kernel header updates

This month's slackpkg update included a new kernel with new headers but no new glibc. In fact I don't think I've ever seen a glibc update in a stable Slackware release.

When I first started using Linux, around 2006, I was told that glibc must be kept in step with the kernel headers if you are going to compile software locally, because some code directly references kernel parameters, which need to have the same values as the ones assumed by your glibc build.

Is this no longer so?
