Bucs' Evans thinks he's underrated: 'I'll take myself over anybody'
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans believes he should get more consideration in conversations surrounding the league's top pass-catchers.
"I know where I'm at," Evans said, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. "My opinion matters more than anybody else because I watch all of these guys, and there are a lot of f-----g great players. But I'll take myself over anybody."
Evans has rattled off nine straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons to start his career, the only player to accomplish that feat in NFL history.
The 29-year-old has seen several quarterbacks throw him passes since entering the league, including Josh McCown, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mike Glennon, Jameis Winston, and Tom Brady.
"If people were in my situation, there's only 5-10 guys in history who have done what I've done," Evans said. "It's been a battle, but I enjoy it."
Evans will have a new starting quarterback again in 2023 after working with Brady for the previous three campaigns. Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are battling for the starting job in training camp.
The four-time Pro-Bowler believes the team can succeed with whomever wins the starting role this season.
"Rebuilding? We are just trying to win right now," Evans added. "I don't know why people don't see that. Win the division, after that, people can take care of themselves."
The Texas A&M product has 10,425 receiving yards and 683 catches in 137 career games.
