HP Chromebook 14 replace with Linux

Hi I am new to this forum, but not to Linux. I was gifted a HP Chromebook 14 - Canada, 4GB, 128GB - and would really rather have Linux replace Chrome on it. Any distro but preferably MX. From what I see that is possible but difficult. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Or should I re-gift it?
