Accidentally overwrote Grub boot loader
by davexnet from LinuxQuestions.org on (#6DKPS)
Hello - My two HDD drives were configured so:
Disk "A"
Windows 10 boot loader
Windows 10 itself
Windows XP
Linux (Peppermint 5)
Linux swap
Disk "B"
Linux boot loader (Grub)
data only partition
I use Windows 10/Linux in approx. 75/25% ratio, so my BIOS boot order
was Disk "A" by default. When I wanted to boot Linux I could select a menu at boot time
to boot from Disk "B"
However, for some unrelated troubleshooting purposes I took out Disk "A" and plugged in
Disk "C", and did a test install of Windows 10 on "C" (after first resetting the BIOS).
But in a moment of carelessness I had forgotten
that the BIOS reset made disk "B" default boot disk, so when 10 was installed on "C"
it overwrote the GRUB on "B" with it's own boot loader.
I would like to remove Disk "C" and put "A" back but I can no longer boot to
Peppermint OS. Would appreciate any info on how to proceed.
Regards,
Dave H
