Bluetooth headset with own dongle always on draining battery on Linux.

I have a Plantronics PLT V5200 bluetooth headset with its own dongle called BT600. The connection through its own dongle is much better than using any other bluetooth adapter so that's what I'm using.

I'm on Arch and I'm using pulseaudio. The headset shows up in pavucontrol as Plantronics BT600 and it has a number of profiles to choose including "Analog Stereo Output +Mono Input" and some digital modes.

The problem is that while on windows the driver only activates the headset when required (when sound is playing or microphone is active only in a call) on Linux the headset is always on. If I go to pavucontrol I can see levels change in Input Devices when I speak even when not on call. As a result the battery runs out a lot sooner than it otherwise would.

Does anyone know any method that could be used on Linux to only activate audio devices when necessary?
