A senior Democrat called Kevin McCarthy pathetic and shameful" on Wednesday, for continuing to protect George Santos even as a staffer to the fabulist Republican congressman faced charges for impersonating the House speaker's own chief of staff.

Daniel Goldman of New York said: According to a federal indictment, George Santos paid someone to impersonate Kevin McCarthy's chief of staff to raise money, yet McCarthy continues to protect Santos.
