Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf took some blame for the team's ugly season-opening loss against the Los Angeles Rams.

"I really can't speak for everybody else's, but my part was just effort," Metcalf said Wednesday, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. "And play after play, just 100% effort, it wasn't just there like it's been in the past. So, I know that's one thing I've got to clean up."

Metcalf finished the game with three catches for 47 yards and one touchdown. He didn't register a single target in the second half.

"I can't tell you," Metcalf said when asked why he didn't give a full effort. "I think it's just an inward experience, a lack of preparation on my part. Just got to do a better job preparing during the week and knowing my job."

Metcalf drew a taunting flag in the fourth quarter after getting into it with Rams coaches and players while the team attended to injured cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who Metcalf shoved on the preceding play.

Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Monday that he would have a long talk with Metcalf about the incident.

"That's between me and Pete," Metcalf said when asked about the conversation with his coach. "But the gist of the message was that I'm a target now, and I've got to carry myself as such and not continue to hurt the team. That's what I'm going to do."

The Seahawks offense as a whole struggled Sunday, totaling just 12 yards on 14 plays in the second half.

Seattle takes on the Detroit Lions in Week 2.
